Charles “Chuck” Segard, Asian Bodywork Therapist
A special message from Dr. Matzner:
“Bodywork healing, which can involve what many of you would call massage therapy, is now available right on the premises of our new office. Although I have always believed that bodywork therapy complements chiropractic care, I have not previously been able to offer you both under one roof. Now I can, and I hope you will feel free to ask questions about how these treatments enhance your recuperation (if you are healing) or how they contribute to excellent health (if you are pursuing wellness).
I might mention that in addition to his private practice, Chuck has worked as a teaching assistant for The Upledger Institute, the Pacific and Asian Restoration Therapies of DZR training program, and Champaign’s Center for Taiji Studies. He has been active in several of our civic organizations, serving on the boards of the Illinois Disciples Foundation, WEFT community radio station, and the Champaign County Health Care Consumers. Chuck continues to create art on a sporadic basis and is proud of his participation in both private and public collections, most notably NYC’s world-renowned Museum of Modern Art”
While Chuck’s interest in touch therapy began at an early age, he came to Champaign-Urbana in 1977 to study at the University, earning his Master’s degree in Fine Arts in 1979, and then decided to pursue his devotion to the healing arts as well. In 1996 he became a professional bodywork therapist, specializing in Craniosacral Therapy and Lymph Drainage Therapy. He has more than fifteen years of experience providing a variety of bodywork techniques, and is certified to practice the Pacific and Asian Restoration Therapies of DZR. Chuck has also been part of the faculty of the Parkland College Massage Program since 2008, where he shares his healing knowledge with others.
As you can see by reviewing the descriptions below, there is so much more to Asian Bodywork Therapy than massage that we actually prefer not to call it “massage therapy.” Since many of these terms may be unfamiliar to you, Chuck will be happy to answer your questions about the various techniques he commonly uses and help you decide which is most appropriate for you, given your individual health needs and personal preferences.
You may schedule 60- or 90-minute sessions for any type of therapeutic bodywork. Lymph work sessions can be either 30- or 60-minute sessions. Please call (217) 419-2615 during office hours.
Various Modalities
Pacific and Asian Restoration Therapies of DanZan Ryu (P.A.R.T. of DZR) is more than just oiling your hands and rubbing somebody’s back. It is an integrated combination of the healing techniques of ancient Chinese and Japanese martial arts forms and Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage. P.A.R.T. of DZR is a deep tissue style of bodywork that tends to promote improved blood circulation and strengthening of the body’s energy systems leaving you with a feeling of being wholly integrated.
CranioSacral Therapy uses very light touch to the clothed client. It helps alleviate a range of illness, pain and dysfunction, including: migraine headaches, chronic fatigue, chronic neck and back pain, learning disabilities, emotional difficulties, central nervous system disorders and many others.
Lymph Drainage Therapy improves the circulation of lymphatic system. The proper functioning of the lymphatic system is critical to our bodies ability to detoxify and regenerate tissues, filter out toxins and foreign substances, recover crucial substances that have escaped from the blood and maintain a healthy immune system. It can help to reduce swelling, chronic sinus conditions, rejuvenate the skin while reducing wrinkles and cellulite.
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) In essence, EFT is an emotional version of acupressure wherein we stimulate certain meridian points by tapping on them with our fingertips. This addresses a new cause for emotional issues (unbalanced energy meridians). Properly done, this frequently reduces the therapeutic process from months or years down to hours or minutes. And, since emotional stress can contribute to pain, disease and physical ailments, we often find that EFT provides astonishing physical relief and gains in personal performance. For more information on EFT go to www.eftuniverse.com.
Zero Point Energy (ZPE) The intent is to clear energy disturbances in the body that prevent it from healing itself and move it in a direction of balance or homeostasis…a state in which disease, pain and inflexibility can not exist. This revolutionary new technology involves the use of a tool called an AMWand. It resonates with minerals, crystals and diamond dust infused with the resonance from the source of zero point energy field. Einstein described it as the origin of everything. By spiraling the AMWand over an area of discomfort the results are often an immediate reduction of pain and a truly calming feeling. For more information about ZPE, go to www.wandtheworld.com
