Douglas Matzner, DC

I deeply believe in chiropractic medicine and in the human body's capacity to heal itself. My goal as a doctor is to restore my patients to the best health possible. I am a licensed physician in the State of Illinois and have nearly 20 years' experience treating neuro-musculo-skeletal complaints and other common problems that can be helped by chiropractic and acupuncture. In particular, I specialize in orthopedic problems related to occupation, injury, and/or lifestyle— the most common causes of headache, neck, back, leg and arm pain. Since 1981 I have been certified in both chiropractic and acupuncture.

In 1999 I was one of only 80 physicians in the U.S. who participated in a whiplash research project conducted by the Spine Research Institute of San Diego, the U.S. Navy, and Texas A&M Engineering. We examined the effects of low-speed motor vehicle collisions on volunteer human subjects and carried out multiple analyses of the data, which required advanced study in biomechanics and occupant kinematics while applying the principles of mathematics and physics. My participation in this project earned me special certification in whiplash injury and accident reconstruction, knowledge which I bring to patients who have suffered a motor vehicle accident.

Professional

Besides being a member of the American Chiropractic Association, I am currently President of the Illinois Chiropractic Society. My professional obligations include coordinating state conventions and district-level seminars. That means I actively promote continuing medical education for Illinois chiropractors, a job I enjoy because I believe it is very important for doctors to stay abreast of current developments in their field and utilize this knowledge for patient care. I myself have completed extensive post-graduate studies and am a board-certified member of both the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners and the International Academy of Clinical Acupuncture.

Personal

On the personal side, I will add that I graduated with honors from the National College of Chiropractic in1981 and immediately moved to Champaign, Illinois where I established myself in private practice. Here I have been an active community speaker to local medical groups, various clubs, church groups, social organizations, and University of Illinois health classes. My hobbies include watching basketball, playing golf and ping-pong, and going scuba diving. I live in Champaign with my wife Diana Steele and our 125-gallon salt water fish tank.
